Privacy Policy
Effective October 11, 2026 ยท We-Collided (wecollided.com)
This page explains what We-Collided collects when you use the site, why, and the choices you have. Questions? Email wecollidedsocial@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and password (handled by Google Firebase; we never see your password), or, if you sign up with Google, the name and email address on your Google account (we never see your Google password), your birthday at sign-up (used only to check you're 18 or older; it isn't saved unless you add it to your profile), your name, bio and profile picture.
- What you post: posts, photos, comments, likes and dislikes, friend connections, your Top 5, profile colors, background photo and cover video link.
- Link previews: when you post a link, our server visits that page once to get its title, short description and picture, and saves them with your post.
- Posts, polls and mentions: when you post, we also save the #hashtags, the friends you @mention and a list of the words in it so posts can be searched. If you vote in a poll, your vote is saved with your account so it's counted once and you can change it.
- Saved posts and settings: the posts you save (only you can see this list), your notification choices, a post you pin to your profile, and which announcements from We-Collided you've already seen.
- Messages: private messages you send and receive. Chat photos can only be saved or deleted by dragging them in the chat; if the other person saves a photo you sent, you're told. Only you and the other person can open them in the app. The site owner can see them only when needed to investigate abuse. If a post, comment or message uses a word on our safety watch list (like common scam phrases or slurs), a short copy of it (up to 300 characters) is saved privately so the site owner can check it. Voice messages are saved as small audio files on our Cloudflare storage so the other person can play them, and are deleted about 2 minutes after the other person last plays them. You can edit a message for 15 minutes after you send it (only the new words are kept), or unsend it, which removes its words, photo or voice message for both people. When someone replies to a message, a short copy of it (up to 140 characters) shows with the reply; that copy is cleared if the original is unsent.
- Marketplace: your listings, photos, price, and the map spot you choose for pickup or delivery. The spot you choose is shown to other members, so pick a public place.
- Visit information: your IP address, the date and time of your visit, and your browser and device type. We log this once per browser session.
- Collide: when you show or scan a Collide code, your phone's location is checked for a moment to make sure you're together. That exact location is stored only while the code is live (about 2 minutes) and then deleted.
- Collide cards and the "Where we met" map: each collide saves who collided, when, the city or town, a rough map spot (rounded to within about a mile), and a photo if either of you adds one. Only the two people on the card (and the site owner for moderation) can see it. The city name is also added to an anonymous "top cities" count.
- Nearby alerts (only if you turn them on): your phone saves a rough area (a grid square about 1โ2 miles wide, never your exact spot) so collided friends who also turned it on can get a "nearby" heads-up. Turn it off in Settings any time.
- Plans and groups: plans you send in chats (what, when and where) and group chats you join.
- Chat pictures: a picture you send in a chat passes through our servers only to reach the other person. Once they've seen it (or after 7 days), it's deleted from our servers and kept only on your two devices.
- Photos: pictures you post (posts, profile and background pictures, Top 5 pictures, stories, collide cards, event photos and Marketplace photos) are stored with Cloudflare and shown through a web link with a long random name. The app only shows each photo to the people allowed to see it, but anyone who is given the exact link could open it.
- Stories: photos you share as a story are visible to the friends you choose and disappear after 24 hours. The photo file itself is removed from storage within about 2 days.
- Reactions: likes, dislikes and emoji reactions you add to posts, comments and stories. The person who posted a story can see who reacted to it.
- Device ID: a random ID saved in your browser (in its storage and in a cookie called
wc-dev). It identifies the phone or computer, not you. We use it so each device can only create one account, and to block devices linked to banned accounts. A device stays linked to the account that was created on it until that account is deleted. - Collide Events: events you create (name, time, place and description) can be seen by anyone with the event link. When you check in, we save a rough location (rounded to about 100 meters) to make sure you're there, and the people at the event can see that you checked in. Event photos can be seen by people who checked in.
- Notifications: if you turn on notifications, we save a notification token for your browser or phone so we can send you alerts.
- ๐งญ World Hunt (retired): if you used the World Hunt while it was available, we keep what you caught and the names of the public places and cities, plus a rough spot (about 100 m) of your last catch, with your account. We don't use your location for it anymore.
- ๐ฃ Worldlings and duels (paused for now): the game is turned off right now. If you played it, we keep your eggs, Worldlings (including which friend each one came from), bag of items, care streak and duel results with your account. When you duel a friend, the two of you can see that duel (your creatures, who won and, after the fight, their stats). Nobody else can.
- ๐ค Bump to Collide and nearby groups: when you bump or open a group collide, we save for a few minutes the time you bumped and a rough area about a block wide, so the other phone can find yours. The collide itself uses the same location check as scanning a code.
- ๐ Meet people nearby (only if you turn it on): while it's on (up to 2 hours, and only while the app is open) we save a rough area about a block wide (never your exact spot) and your optional hello line, so other members who also turned it on close by can see your name and picture. It's deleted when you turn it off or the time runs out. People you've blocked never see you.
- ๐งช Beta testing (only if you sign up): if you join our app beta at wecollided.com/beta.html, we save the email, name and phone type you give us so we can add you to the Google Play (or Apple TestFlight) test. Google or Apple then handle the test under their own privacy policies. Only the owner can see the list, and we delete your entry if you ask.
- ๐ Profile visits and profile links: when you open someone else's profile we add 1 to that member's monthly visit count (we don't record who visited). Members can see their own total; the owner uses the totals to understand which pages are popular and estimate ad earnings. If you pick a profile link (wecollided.com/@name), that name is public.
- ๐ Friends Map (only if you turn it on): we save your last spot (or just your general area, about a mile, if you choose) while the app is open, and which friends you agreed to share with. Only friends who added you back can see it, along with when it was last updated. "Hide me" or "Stop sharing" removes your spot from everyone's map right away. We never track your location while the app is closed, and we never sell it or give it to advertisers. If a map friend is nearby, we send you both a heads-up (at most every few hours).
- ๐ข Free to hang plans: when you tap a friend's "free to hang" bubble, the messages and reactions you leave there can be seen by them and the other friends they shared it with. If they drop a meet-up pin, the spot they pick (and its name) is shown to the same friends. Everything posted there, including the pin, is deleted when their free time ends (or when they end it early).
- ๐ป Walkie talkie (with a friend or a group) and ๐๏ธ hang-out room voice: when you hold to talk, your voice is passed live through Cloudflare straight to the people listening. It is never recorded or saved. We save only whether a walkie is on between two friends, so both phones show the chathead. If a friend is away, they get a "wants to talk" notification, not your voice.
- ๐บ Hang-out rooms: room chat, emoji and the YouTube video the owner picks are passed live to the people in the room and aren't saved after the room closes. YouTube plays the video under its own privacy policy.
- ๐ฅฝ VR rooms: your room's wall shows visitors your name, profile picture, bio, badges and a few stats (like how many friends and collides you have). If a visitor signs your guestbook, we save their name, the emoji and the short note (up to 60 characters) they leave, and likes on a room are saved with who left them. Signers can remove their own note, and the room owner can remove notes on their wall.
- ๐ฏ Collide Strike (VR headsets): game moves and scores are passed live between players through Cloudflare while you play.
- ๐ People you may know: once a day our server looks at who is friends with whom and saves, for each member, a short private list of friends-of-friends and how many friends you share. Only you can see your list.
- ๐ Problem reports and app errors: if the app hits an error, it saves the error message, the page, the app version and your browser type so we can fix it. If you use "Report a problem", we also save what you type. Only the owner can see these.
- ๐ซ Take It Down requests: if you ask us to remove an intimate picture shared without consent, we keep your request (your name, how to reach you, which picture and your statement) so we can act on it and show we did. The reported picture is kept privately, only for the owner (and any helper the owner trusts with this) to review, until it's removed or put back (at most 48 hours), then that copy is deleted. If it was removed only because the 48 hours ran out before anyone looked at it, a private copy is kept 7 more days in case the person who posted it appeals, then deleted. We also keep a count of requests that turned out to be false.
- ๐ Usage counts and the safety brake: to keep the site inside its free database limits, each phone saves a daily count of how many items it loaded from each part of the site (for example "posts: 120"). It's numbers only, never what you looked at. If the app gets stuck saving the same thing over and over, it pauses that for a minute and saves a short note (which kind of save, how many times, the page and the app version) so we can fix the bug.
- ๐ช My World (camera and AR): when you use Camera or AR, your camera and motion sensors are used only on your own phone to show your world. Nothing from the camera is uploaded or saved by us; a photo or clip is only saved if you tap Photo or Record, and it goes straight to your phone or the app you share it with.
- Settings: your choices like language, click sounds, Granny view, profile lock and theme, which notifications you get, and which chats or groups you've muted.
- Fun camera: face effects and color filters run only on your own phone or computer. Your camera picture isn't sent anywhere unless you choose to post or send the photo. We don't collect, store, sell or share biometric identifiers or biometric information (like face geometry or face scans); the face tracking happens on your device and nothing about your face is sent to us.
- Your shopping location: if you set a location in Marketplace, it's saved only on your device, not on our servers.
- ๐ค๏ธ Weather button: if you choose "Use my location" (or type a town or ZIP code), the app keeps a rough spot, rounded to about 7 miles, on your phone only. To get the forecast, that rough spot (never your exact location, and never your name or account) is sent through our server to the U.S. National Weather Service. We save each area's forecast for about 30 minutes so the next person nearby gets it faster. You can change the place or hide the weather button any time.
How we use it
- To run the site: show your profile and posts, deliver messages, alerts and notifications.
- To keep the community safe: review reports, send warnings, and suspend or ban accounts that break the rules. IP addresses help us spot people who return after a ban.
- To count visits and understand how the site is used.
We don't sell your personal information.
Who else handles data
- GIPHY powers GIF search in chats. What you type in the GIF search goes through our server to GIPHY, and the GIFs you see and send load from GIPHY's servers (so GIPHY can see your IP address). GIPHY doesn't get your name or account.
- Google Firebase stores accounts and site data and hosts the site, and delivers push notifications.
- Cloudflare stores members' photos (Cloudflare R2), runs the small service that uploads photos and sends push notifications, hosts the how-to videos, and manages the wecollided.com web address (DNS).
- Google MediaPipe (downloaded from Google and jsDelivr) powers the fun camera's face effects on your device.
- YouTube plays cover videos. YouTube may set its own cookies when a video loads.
- OpenStreetMap and Nominatim provide maps, place search in Marketplace and the weather button, and the city name on collide cards.
- U.S. National Weather Service (weather.gov) provides the forecasts and alerts for the weather button. It only gets the rough, town-sized spot described above.
- Iowa Environmental Mesonet (Iowa State University) provides the live radar map tiles, which load straight from their servers, so they can see your IP address.
- ipify tells the site your IP address when you visit.
- Google Fonts provides the site's fonts.
- Google AdSense shows ads on the site. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalized ads at adssettings.google.com, and learn more at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Cookies and storage in your browser
The site saves a few small things in your browser so it works: your sign-in (Firebase), your settings (like language and sounds), a saved copy of recent data so the app opens faster, and the device ID described above. Google AdSense and YouTube may set their own cookies, as explained above. You can remove all of these by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
What other people can see
Signed-in members can see your profile, public posts, friends list, Top 5 and Marketplace listings. Friends-only posts are visible only to the friends you had when you posted them. Public posts can also show up on the ๐ฅ Trending page and in #hashtag and search results.
Keeping and deleting data
You can delete your posts, comments and listings at any time. You can get a copy of your data any time from Settings โ Download my data. To delete your whole account and its data, go to Settings โ Delete my account (or email wecollidedsocial@gmail.com from the address on your account). Messages you sent stay in the other person's chat unless you unsend them first. Visit logs (with IP addresses) are kept for moderation and are deleted automatically after about 90 days. When someone reports a post, message or profile, a private copy of the reported picture and messages is kept with the report so the admin can review it, even if the original is deleted. Reports about child sexual abuse are kept for at least one year and shared with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement, as the law requires. We keep a record of when you agreed to our Terms (the date, the version, and your browser type), even after an account is deleted, as proof of the agreement.
When you delete a post, story, listing or event photo, or replace your profile picture, background or another photo, the old photo file is deleted from storage too. Deleting your account removes all of your photos and frees your device so a new account can be made on it.
Adults only
We-Collided is only for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, email us and we'll remove it. To keep kids off the site, we look for signs that an account belongs to someone under 18 (like reports, or a bio or post saying their age or grade). If we think an account might belong to a minor, we may pause it and ask for a photo of a government ID. Only the admin sees that photo, and it's deleted as soon as we've checked it. If we don't get proof by the deadline, or the person is under 18, the account is removed.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
